DeLue's piece, The Rocket Thrower, was a heroic male embodiment of motive power. Occupying the most prominent location on the Fair's principle axis, the forty-three foot bronze dominated the central mall. The stylized, discreetly draped figure balanced on an ascending curve of metal as he reached toward a constellation of gilded stars. From his right hand issued a comet-like form rising above the stars and into the heavens.
